Pilates is a great form of exercise for people of all ages and fitness levels – and that includes beginners! If you’re new to fitness or returning to working out after a break in your regime, our Pilates for beginners London classes provide a friendly and welcoming environment to help you find your groove.

Welcome to Beginner Pilates at Goji London

Pilates classes at Goji London are designed for everybody and every body, so you can be sure that every class offers a workout that’s tailored to you. Our classes are aligned with goals and objectives, rather than abilities, which means you can fully embrace the practice, regardless of your current fitness levels.

At our Go Tone Pilates classes, you can enjoy a full-body, low-impact workout while targeting your posture, alignment and core strength, for example.

Alternatively, you can rely on our Go Fix class to utilise Pilates exercise to address underlying niggles and discomfort. If you’re recovering from an injury, Go Fix can be the ideal way to accelerate your progress and ease yourself back into a regular workout schedule.

Designed to challenge you, our Go Burn Pilates classes take things up a notch while remaining utterly accessible. It’s a little faster paced than our other Pilates classes and may incorporate some Barre work, as well as more repetitions.

Pilates for Beginners – on the Mat

Although Pilates can incorporate equipment and apparatus, such as the Reformer, many beginners start with mat-based Pilates. This involves moving through a series of exercises and relying on your own bodyweight to provide resistance.

In many ways, mat-based Pilates embodies the essence of the practice as it’s this form of the exercise that Jospeh Pilates first developed before incorporating additional equipment. While it might sound like we’re going to basics, mat-based Pilates can be as challenging as you like. Learning mat-based Pilates means you are also able to do it anywhere, and are not reliant on heavy equipment.

Pilates consists of more than 500 exercises and there is plenty of room for adaptations. Some class members use props to help them undertake particular exercises. A simple yoga strap can help you to deepen stretches, for example, and aid you in improving your flexibility.

Every exercise can be modified to suit your current fitness levels and abilities, so everyone can fully immersive themselves in our Pilates for beginners London classes.

Progressing from Beginner Pilates

As you gain strength and confidence, you may want to add more repetitions to each exercise or try exercises that challenge your newfound strength and flexibility levels. If so, our instructors are on hand to instruct and guide you.

While our Go Burn classes offer a more intensive workout than Go Tone and Go Fix classes, they are still designed for everyone to enjoy. At Go Burn, you’ll discover muscles you didn’t know you had and surprise yourself with reserves you realise you had!

In the same way that equipment can make Pilates more accessible, it can also make it more challenging. Pilates resistance bands are a great way to improve your strength, for example, and can be used to increase the intensity of your workout as you become a more confident and experienced Pilates practitioner.
